Disgaea_3-_Absence_of_Justice

I’m what one may call a Disgaea fan boy. I have played every game in the series to death and still to this day play Disgaea 3. Imagine my surprise then when I logged into the PSN to find a new expansion to the game starring none other then Raspberyl. Now I knew for a long time this content was out there as I followed the Japanese release of it. Even going as far as downloading the PV that was available on the Japanese PSN. However little information about the content lead me to believe that we would never see it here in the US. But low and behold it’s here and it’s awesome.

The new content follows Raspberyl on her journey to become a Teacher for the Netherworld academy and the number 1 delinquent in the universe. The DLC unfolds over the course of four chapters that can be purchased separately or all at once for $11.99. Should you feel like testing it out you can purchase the chapters one by one and the price will be the same when all is said and done.

Raspberyl

The new storyline is fully voiced and the actors from Disgaea 3 have all returned to reprise their roles for this new story and it’s a good thing as the cast of Disgaea 3 was top notch and featured some of the bigger names of anime voice over like Vic Mignogna(Full Metal Alchemist) Michelle Ruff(Bleach, Chobit’s) Laura Bailey(Fruits Basket) and Johnny Yong Bosch( Bleach, Eureka Seven, Trigun) Needless to say the performances are great and you will be laughing the whole way.

Tenpei Sata also returns with a few new songs for the game and Rasperyl’s new theme alone is awesome. The rest of the new music is great and what’s not new is used well and fits perfectly.

Being that this content follows a new story naturally there are plenty of new fights and maps you will have to overcome to advance. This DLC is clearly aimed at players who have been playing awhile and know what they are doing as even the weaker enemies are at least level 1200 and by the end of the story you will be facing enemies level 2500+. So you will really need to know what you are doing to enjoy this content however anyone who is reading this and contemplating buying the content is probably already in a position to do well enough.

The great thing about this DLC is that while playing Disgaea 3 I always found myself hoping that Raspberyl, Asuka and Kyoko would be more involved in the story but they never really got deeply involved until near the end and it just didn’t seem enough for these great characters. This DLC fixes that by giving the trio their own story and while it’s mostly about Raspberyl Kyoko and Asuka are not left on the sidelines. Even other lesser know characters make cameo appearances like Zetta of Makai Kingdom fame and Gorden Jennifer and Thursday of Disgaea 1.

At the end of the day it’s a easy decision to make. If you are a Disgaea fan like me this is a no brainer to purchase. The content only costs $11.99 and it lasts around 3-4 hours. The story will have you laughing the whole way and even if you are a causal Disgaea player it’s worth downloading at least the first chapter to give it a look you never know you may find yourself hooked.
