It seems that APB’s chances of making it to the Xbox 360 look grim from what we gathered at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival today.
We had a quick question for a representative from Realtime Worlds who, when asked about the 360 version of the game, shrugged his shoulders and would only clarify the PC release in Spring 2010.
Also, Eurogamer has reported about the APB website’s FAQ (which is, at time of writing, down). The developers are “evaluating opportunities for a console port of APB but there’s nothing concrete to announce at the moment”.
It’s a shame if this is the case. Why are developers u-turning on console MMO development? Are they underestimating the task of bringing an MMO to console? Tell us what you think in the comment box below.

Explaining Starcraft to FarmVille People
The Cake is a Lie!
I’m disappointed all of the MMOs I was looking forward to play on my 360 are turning into PC Exclusives. I personally think Phantasy Star Universe worked really well and I was hooked on that game for a good while. I was really hoping Huxley would make it but it’s not looking too good right now.
C’mon…really? Dam it, I’ve been looking forward to MMO’s like Huxley and APB to hit my 360 gaming shelf. Now it seems like they don’t think that they have a market for MMO’s out there on consoles. C’mon people, really, please, just please let me have one MMO other than Phantasy Star Universe that is descent and replayable, because I really want my friends on 360, those who love MMO’s but play their 360′s nonstop, to have a chance to play a real good MMO, not just the Phantasy Star Universe demo.
its because consoles cannot have too many players at the same time on one map
well, they’re fking loss. I would have bought this shit on the 360, but now i’ll pass.
Fine, I’ll get it for free then, you lazy bastardos.
not suprised at all
the abox doesnt have the capabilities to hold more than 32 ppl on one map at the same time
if they would have brought this to the PS3 they could have done it although the PS3 does have MAG which supports 256 players so I wont miss out on anything
@ Showstoppa,
It’s all about the server pal not the system, the 360 is capable, it’s just that people aren’t willing to pay extra money on top of paying for LIve.
I’m going to have to agree with Adam there; it’s not the Xbox 360′s processing or graphics power that will result in a potential cancellation, but consumer interest versus the development effort/costs.
On a slightly related note, you guys were at Edinburgh Interactive? I never saw you. You should have come to me and said hello. I wasn’t at the drinks reception but I was milling around with my photographer all day (not a lot inside the conference though, and I was off for interviews some of the time).
I think I’m tired of companies canceling console mmos. Thats all I think. The only reason I could imagine is maybe some licensing issues with charging over xbl because they have their own servers.
this is a load of b**l*cks im very upset about this news i hope its not true
ive been waiting for an mmo since xbox 1 when star wars galaxies was cancelled
im so p*ss*d off about this
whats so hard about it ? loads of people would pay extra for an mmo on 360 i did with final fantasy
i feel cheated everytime theres a new console launch you see loads of games that look amazing like huxley and lots of others but in the end its all lies to make me invest in a console
i think we should all complain, to many important titles getting the axe from 360 and demand something be done about it
im very angry i could punch Peter Moore in his fat EA face and any other shnider thats tricked me with this farce
dis straight up B S man i have been a fan for this game since 2005 i been doing my research on this game for the longest man me and whole clan on saints row 2 is waiting for it to it the 3360 how in the world u dont put a MMO on xbox live one the biggest online gaming channels you just put it on pc ya’ll really crushing alot on gamers hearts i have been promoting this game so much i should get paid but just having it out on the xbox 360 will make my day. im a full blooded online gamer and ya’ll really hurtin me realtime world yall need to make the right choice and put it on the 360

if its tru
ya’ll cant be fuc**** with people game emotions
why would you do that?
spend millions of dollars on creating a game for a certain system than 1 year before release drop 1 system.
what a waste of money.
not are they only loosing money from what the spent creating the 360 version, they will now get tens of thousands of less sales because of dropping it.
i know allot of people who wanted this game, me included.
360 looses alan wake.
360 looses ABP.
whats next?
splinter cell conviction?
mass effect 2?
Online games on consoles sucks. that’s why devs don’t want to bother with 360 version.
This could be a cover up since he never said anything about it not coming to 360. Maybe later on this year, they will announce the 360 version since they want to hype it up some more. Developers do cetain things & say things a certain way so that they can get away from the question & the interviewer will not be left with a “no comment”. I still think it will come to 360. Unless there’s conrete info that shows the lead designer saying “It will not come to Xbox 360″ then I won’t believe any BS about it not coming to 360. They said Crackdown 2 was never going to happen but Microsoft pulled it off. Microsoft is secretive like that.
How is this news? A 360 version was never confirmed, and the FAQ says they’ll be looking at it in the future.
That does suck its not coming to 360. I own both systems, and from the look of MAG, the lag and low res make it a let down for sure…250 people at once? whats the big deal? push the game back and polish..polish..polish..please!!!
For the people that says the 360 can only support X amount of people/characters on screen that’s dumb. Not calling you dumb just that one idea you had was dumb. You obviously don’t know anything about how to make a game. Also Final Fantasy 11 is an MMO that is on the 360 and it has over 100 enemies on screen at once. It is just that when you make a PC game you get to set what your limits are for the game. With a console game your limits are set for you before you even make your game. So it’s like you are starting backwards really. If you make a PC game and your PC can’t support it then you upgrade your PC, not possible with consoles. Honestly like most games that are supposed to be for the consoles and PC they usually stay PC only. It’s easier for developers to push out and as long as they make some sort of profit they could really care less. Games that come to mind Age of Conan, APB, Huxley.
I have no idea why a developer would develop a title for such a long time, spend tons of money and then just pull the plug. It is pretty cruel getting everyone’s hopes up and then dashing them.
Ian W.
@Ian W
It’s always been “PC first and consoles later”. That’s what it says on in the FAQ, this isn’t a change in direction as far as I can tell.
Why is this news now? When they released their E3 stuff the same “Shock! Horror! no 360 version” stories came out, and it was the same reply, “PC first and consoles later”.
Also, wht’s this all based on? Someone from Realtime shrugging? I’m sure they’ll work on the 360 version after they get the PC one done.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE THAT GAME. IVE BEEN SO PUMPED EVER SINCE IT WAS ANNOUNCED!
Well it wouldn’t be such a dissapointment It had been a PC only game to begin with. This game was in developement since 2005 & it was supposed to be a launch title for the 360. They were ready to release it in 2008 as a 360 exclusive & no PC version was ever planned. Then they got a budget increase & they decided to make it on PC as well. They worked on the game for over 4 years & they’re just going to cut production for the 360 version just so they can make it for PC? That’s what dissapoints everybody. But it is for Microsoft Windows Live so if Microsoft & EA are not dummies, they will make the 360 version for more profit.
Frank – What you think and what the majority of people think obviously varies. As you can see from the comments, a lot of people were not aware of this and thought APB was 360 bound at the same time as PC…heck, I did too due to past videos and reports suggesting an Xbox 360 release. I actually thought it was Xbox 360 first, then PC.
It’s not just the ‘shrugging’ that was suggestive, it’s also the fact that the FAQ sheds more doubt on it than ever before. The article does not say it is cancelled, but merely points to the fact it could be cancelled.
And, as I said, it seems a lot of people were waiting for a 360 release that may not come.
Oh, and there’s a difference between what they said at E3 and now. Notice how they are even more tentative. To be honest, it wouldn’t surprise me if they have already decided to ditch it for now. Unless the game is an unparalled success, I do wonder…
I’ll tell ya how this is NEWS ‘frank’,
because every damned Xbox magazine I’ve read over the past 18 months have either listed it in their upcoming release schedule pages, featured numerous in-depth articles (including interviews with bloody RealTime Worlds!), or both.
I knew this was coming – about a month ago I was watching the APB podcast and one of the game developers said they were only releasing on pc and (quote) “…had no plans to release a console version at this time”.
Ok, so that’s not a definitive end-of statement, but it’s as good as we’re likely to get considering it from someone *working* on the game.
If anything, I’m more pissed off at the magazines for hyping this game up for the past 18 months as coming to console, when just like virtually every other bloody game I’ve been interested in it’s either been canned or gone PC only.
Such a crock.
lol, fine by me.. i take it as great news, cause that means they will take more care of the pc version..
all they need to do is get ahold of the people how are in charge of the xbox live. Its a online internet for the xbox 360 and people can us this online internet to play APB with friends or faraway family members. Xbox live is just like the PC internet, it for the xbox 360.
