You may have heard that as of right now, Microsoft has a deal set in place that when you purchase a new Xbox 360, Microsoft will rebate you $50.This was discussed on the latest episode of Gametrailers were Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities predicts that Microsoft is simply testing the waters to see how much a $50 effect will have.  Microsoft could be looking to lower the price permanently, which would bring the total price down to $250.

This would certainly make a lot of sense. Up until one month ago, Microsoft has had the price advantage over Sony and the Playsation 3. Something tells me Microsoft isn’t too comfortable with the 360 going for the same price as the PS3 at the moment, and a price drop could give them back the momentum they’re looking for.
