Feeling blue? Hopefully this top ten list will uplift your mood. Whether you are bummed or not, the soft crisp melody of a fine beat can make your day. While playing a video game, you (the player) may hear something special. Here is our list of inspirational songs, that caught our ear throughout the years, given to us by the Nintendo franchise. First, a look at three contenders that almost made it. Then it’s off to the top ten.

Honorable Mention #1 – Bubsy (Main Theme)

Honorable Mention #2 – The Lost Vikings (Main Theme)

Honorable Mention #3 – Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers (Stage A)

10 – Ducktales (The Moon Theme)

Have you ever wished upon a star? Well, if you thought about doing so, you may have been listening to this song. The Ducktales games for the NES were special and the music for it wasn’t bad either. Old Scrooge McDuck, who could use his cane as a pogo stick (mad skills is all that is), tried to find treasure while the inspirational notes chimed in. Capcom could make some quality melodies.

9 – Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (Rainbow Cliffs)

Now, I know what you guys are thinking…who’s Ty? Why is this on the list? Yes, the aussie from down under makes his boomerang slinging mark onto this list. In my opinion, this game is extremely catchy and addictive to play due to the soothing, outback feel of music nicely meshed with it. Another tune besides Rainbow Cliffs, is Outback Adventure. A rugged, yeeha’n good ol’ time. Just listen to these themes when you fire up the GameCube and try not to smile.

8 – Cool Spot (Bonus Level)

Sounding like something you would hear roaring through the inside of a sporting arena, Cool Spot comes surfing in at number eight. This SNES game is hot (no offense Spot) when it comes to its soundtrack, and the stylish little dude has the awards to prove that. It isn’t just this track that is emotionally driven, but every single song on the cartridge doesn’t let up. It is relentless on inspirational notes slamming against your eardrums. Such other songs include Shell Shock and Pier Pressure. I mean, what is more calming than a little red dot, with shades, performing hip snapping attacks to vanquish his opponents?

7 – Yoshi’s Island (The Deep, Underground Maze Theme)

Sparkle, Sparkle! The diamond in the rough song out of the list, comes from Yoshi’s Island. This wonderful melody helps Yoshi and baby Mario try to find their way through the tunnels of the underground.

6 – A Boy and his Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia (Earth Level Theme)

Talk about the ultimate adventure theme. You have just left your house, got your backpack strapped tight with jellybeans inside, which is for your friend…a BLOB! And this tune is blaring through the speakers. A well paced rhythmic melody, that truly encourages you to explore what the game has to offer. “What does this vanilla flavored jellybean do…Oh my god! He turned into an umbrella.”

5 – Big Nose the Caveman (Paradise Island, Stage One Theme)

Even though, Big Nose the Caveman may not have been a well-known NES title, it definitely deserves to be on this list. The caveman with the long snout hits the halfway point of this list of inspirational tunes from Nintendo. After the intro tune, this theme is the next one that hits your ears. It’s extremely beautiful for the 8 bit console, being capable to produce. Just about every other song on this list has the common trait of being surrounded by other great tunes in the game, and this one is no different.

4 – Mega Man 3 (Main Theme)

Wow! A very passionate intro theme to a game I’ve ever heard. I’m a huge fan of the Mega Man series and this one knocked me back from the screen when I first heard it. You had a dilemma when listening to this theme, and that was…when to press the start button! A nice final showdown quality to the overall melody.

3 – Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Zora’s Domain Theme)

This must be what it sounds like to stand on a tropical paradise. Intense harmony pours out and into the airwaves, when Zora’s Domain theme from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time plays. While moving around in this level of the game, not much to fear from enemies is present. This was the hardest choice out of the list, just because of the sheer number of inspirational themes found in this game. I knew third belonged to a song from here, but which one. However, Zora’s Domain won by a hair. Congratulations Link, now keep up the good work.

2 – Pilotwings 64 (Hang Glider Theme)

Unbelievable…I believe was my first word to describe this track back when I first played this amazing game on my Nintendo 64. So calming and graceful, it sent a pleasant chill down my back. With the simple gameplay features this video game delivered and to have this astonishingly simple theme in the backdrop, made it a more enjoyable experience. This game proves that with the right music accompanying the action on the screen, it can determine whether an individual wants to continue to play it or watch some T.V. Some people are starting to make rumbles that they wouldn’t mind seeing a sequel to Pilotwings on the Wii console. Well, put me down for that as well. Let us hang glide once again, while the wind hits our character’s face, as we look down at the beautiful scenery from below us. I think the gyrocopter needs to be taken for another spin and fire our trusty missiles. Only request is that Nintendo brings the N64 soundtrack back in its entirety.

1 – Super Mario 64 (Dire, Dire Docks Theme)

This is it ladies and gentlemen. Hands down, it doesn’t get any better than this. Such an epic inspirational masterpiece. You can literally feel your soul glow and your spirit soar. I played this game with such enthusiasm, that I didn’t want to slow down. Collect red coins here, defeat bosses there, and capture stars everywhere. But, when I entered this level for the first time, it slowed my actions down. Couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Remember standing on a rock platform and moving the camera around to take in the landscape of the stage. This music will do that to you.

There you have it…my top ten list of inspirational video game themes from the collection of all the Nintendo consoles and titles.  What are some of yours, please let us know by commenting the title of the game or song, and even post a link to the YouTube clip.  No registration required to post.

What about 8 melodies from Mother? That song is full of passion. You can’t pass it or look for these songs without it coming up.
