Despite the fact that the game isn’t available ANYWHERE outside of Japan, Dragon Quest has managed to capture the title of “best selling game in the world”, between the months of July and September of this year.
According to the figures released by the NPD Group, GfK, and Enterbrain for this year’s third quarter, Square Enix’s little masterpiece manage to sell an impressive 3.93 million copies, single-handedly giving the hurting Japanese gaming market a much needed boost towards this holiday season.
The game eve outsold the top two best selling games of that same period, Wii Sports Resort (by almost 1,000,000), and the ever popular fan-loved, Pokemon: Heartgold/Soulsilver editions… Now thats an amazingly big accomplishment if you ask me, especially from a game that isn’t available anywhere but in the land of the rising Sun.
The top five global sales for Q3 are as follows:
* 1. Dragon Quest IX: 3,925,000
* 2. Wii Sports Resort: 3,014,000
* 3. Madden NFL 10: 2,612,000
* 4. Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver: 2,068,000
* 5. Halo 3: ODST: 1,847,000
