Halo: Reach Screenshots Leaked

It appears that the first photos of what could very well be Bungie’s last Halo game, Halo: Reach, have been leaked onto the web today, via the MLG Message Board.
User “Tom Morello,” just recently started a thread showing off the blurry photos. He continued to update the thread throughout the day, showing a variety of weapons, thought each pretty blurry and containing the same username branded watermark.
A few of the weapons shown appear familiar, such as the needler and plasma pistol, however, some aren’t as familiar, like the Needler rifle thing for example. Morelle also made a few comments about the HUD, which appears to be a completely new one, stating that it “lists teammate names as well as shows what “perks” players are carrying. In a later post, Morello said he was carrying three of these “perks” when he took the photos: “sprinting”, “cloaking”, and “hologram.”
When asked by another user as to where he managed to snap these photos, Morello responded by saying “at Microsoft HQ, btw, in a office.” Then went to explain his motives for taking the photos were simply to show the MLG community the Battle Rifle, which failed to make an appearance in Halo: ODST.
…Looks pretty legit to me.

Morello had a few interesting things to say about this particular photo.
“This is what the HUD looks like. In the bottom left, you can see your squadmates health and names. Right above the radar shows what perks you are carrying. When I played there were 3 perks-sprinting, cloaking, and halogram. The sprinting makes you run when you hold LB, cloaking makes you invisible (when you cloak your radar jams and you can’t really hear anything around you). The halogram creates a hologram of yourself, so enemies will shoot at both.”
Is this a Super Needler, or a Needler Rifle?
And finally, this. What the heck is this!? A spartan Launcher?

I worshipped Halo. I got a little tired of Halo 2. Didn’t play all that much of Halo 3. The gameplay just feels tired to me at this point. Anyone else feel the same?
I hear ya Bob. What killed it for me was when they decided that we should be forced to buy the DLC to play *some* online playlists. I used to love doubles, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to shell out 15$ to get the privilage to continue playing.
Bungie can go suck one in my opinion.

You guys do know that this “Tom Morello” is just the guitarist for the band Rage Against The Machine, and that the guy from MLG just stole the pictures from Neogaf?
Ditto on the game play feeling worn out. It’s great to have a sequel to your favorite game that plays the exact same without having to learn a bunch of new things, or figure out which buttons have been re-mapped. I feel with the Halo series, Bungie really bungled. Halo 2 seemed too rushed to me. Almost like they didn’t have time to flesh out the story, and only focused on the online aspect.
In contrast, Halo 3’s story felt a bit more fleshed out, the graphic detail was a bit better, and most of the mistakes from Halo 2’s multiplayer had been corrected. No more unlimited sword was probably the best thing they did multiplayer wise.
And lets not forget the huge ad campaign that Bungie/Microsoft ran in the months leading up to Halo 2, the campaign that made it “cool” for every other developer of a game to run the same style campaign. You know, the (insert game here) themed slurpee’s at your local 7-11, commercials for (insert game here) every 5 fucking minutes, and lets not forget the ever so popular (except it wasn’t) Halo themed gamer fuel by mountain dew. Is it just me, or did developers never dream of such aggressive advertising before Halo 2’s massive ad campaign?
Needless to say after so much fanfare, I was disappointed in what I felt was a very rushed game.
Had Halo 2 lived up to the hype, then maybe just maybe I wouldn’t be so damn tired of hearing about this franchise.
All told, I’m glad this is (hopefully) Bungie’s last Halo game, and I hope they can close on a strong note.
doesn’t feel old at all to me. i’ve been playing halo 3 since it came out, it’s the only game i own for 360, and i’m still loving it.

After playing all the Halo games (apart from Halo wars), this just seems like it’s going to be more of the same. Halo Wars was simply Command and Conquer with different graphics.

The campaign you’re referring to is Halo 3’s ad campaign, not Halo 2’s. Halo 2 had a commercial with some gameplay, a one liner from Chief, and one of the Prophets saying that Earth was doomed at the end.
On a side note, I personally loved Halo 2, and it remains my favorite in the series.
I feel that the core gameplay mechanics of Halo are still enjoyable but do need an update to keep it fresh. I was hoping for the equipment to do that for Halo 3 however the lack of variety and removal of certain equipment was disappointing. I really hope with the addition of perks (SPRINTING!!) and hopefully the revision of equipment will freshen up the gameplay enough to keep the core Halo fans happy but also entice those gamers back who feel the Halo series has become stagnant.

if it follows the story of the novel Halo: Fall of Reach, (which im assuming, and completely hoping it will), then the cov will attack Reach, and it will …..(Possible spoilers)
be destroyed, right as the pillar of autumn makes the slipspace jump with captain keyes, cortana, MC, and Sarge. when the ship exists slipspace, Halo CE begins.

Know what people mean when they say Halo 3 and ODST were stale feeling, REACH is the definate jolt the franchise needs for the aspects bungie was getting criticized (story, gameplay, making a unique sequel). My only beef is that they did what I hoped they wouldn’t, take from their competition (call of duty) and use a perk system. Not harping on bungie’s creativity, cause the pictures prove that’s not an issue. Still a year to release and it already looks like a keeper.
I feel like halo is the best game ever made. It has so much more depth than any other game. I think what ever they have done with the new one will be great. I like the fact that they have taken the whole bubble shield idea (which was new to halo 3) to another level. I love the competitive nature of the game and i play it religiously. I will be there at 12am when they release it because bungie understands what we want and they have given it to us for years. Prepare to Drop

It doesn’t have the slightest more depth than CoD MW or MW 2. The only depth it has is in it’s MP.
Im with Admir J there. Halo was my all time favorite console game for the longest time, that is untill the rehashed gameplay started with Halo 3. I’m pretty much a Call of Duty MW fan now, just for the more exciting faster paced combat and how it had the same effect as Halo CE for me. I wont say that one is better than the other though since the two have difference in their strengths and weaknesses. But Bungie and everyone for that matter will get shook by MW2 no doubt.

How is it that every halo post always turns into a halo hate thread. If you like COD more than halo, good for you. There are those of us that like halo more than COD. its cool that they are bringing back the teammate health HUD,like back in halo CE(custom) were they show the health on the people in the worthog , coz times in halo 3 win I’m on gunner and my shields are down most of the time the driver dos not know and i die.

Definitely looks legit. Although if it is in fact legit then we’re not gonna be seeing much improvements in the graphics space (from whatever I can make out in the blurry screenshots). The perks and other stuff sounds too COD. Persoanlly I wouldn’t prefer such stuff in Halo multiplayer.

The menu looked sweet! It seems as though we may be playing in an area of Reach that has already been glassed, I can’t wait to see what is actually looks like. As for the weapons, I hope Bungie doesn’t just rely on the “these weapons were made as prototypes” excuse and comes up with something that makes some real sense. That being said, the game looks great and I’m probably going to shit my pants from anticipation!

I’m quite pissed off. Reach was meant to be kept secret untill MICROSOFT not some mother fucker who leaks screenshots of the game, which will in the long run, kill the anticipation for the game. Well I heard that halo reach is suppose to be more like CoD. Hinting at the carbine with a needler on it. The br has a new look and scope plus it only has 10 rounds left? Automatic maybe? since the br was 3 shot it’s impossible for it to have 10 rounds left. I put my money on it’s a gun attachment aka rapid fire for the br. The spartan laser looks like it has a heartbeat sensor on it maybe a ocunter to the cloaking Tom was talking about?
I believe this will be an awesome game. ODST just didnt seem like much of a game. The trailer was shit, the game was shit. Relying on that very unreasonable method of soothsaying, Reach is gonna be shit hot because i got fucking chills when the first trailer came out and now this new one makes the spartans look more human than master chief and just all round better. Judging by the newest trailer the new armor perms are going to be sweet

but anyway my gamertag is Wizant2137 and i love sniper 1v1’s in halo 3. The only rule is that the only way to get points is by a headshot. I’ve never seen body shots kill people (that’d be annoying) but i think its possible. 705 1v1’s and counting.

To eactly say it…. The BR is not fake! Check on Halopedia the main sources for all Halo information! That is the Reach battle rifle an the guy in the new trailer did indeed have this R if you look carefully you’ll see the difference!
Maybe this is all just a clever scheme by Bungie and Microsoft to stir up more interest.

In a post by this mythical “Tom Morello” he says there was a new attachment on the Warthog, a sort of missile pod. The thing on the back of the Warthog in the picture looks similar to a missile pod.

Its possible that this is reach. Because what happens, if you have something to do with the game, you get a trial copy of it for free. You can play the first level, and it looks like this is what will be expected, he Spartan launcher, it looks like a laser… I know someone who has played the first level of reach, and they said it was good, so you can just take photos of the screen with a camea and upload them.

These photos aren’t real because if you look closely in the “needler rifle” you’ll see that there is no turret of carriage on the back of the warthog. Also why doesn’t show the whole screen in the picture of the lobby. And why are all the pictures blurry? Tom obviously made these from scratch.
Ok i agree that these are questionable, but in regards to it definitely not being real because of the warthog not having a turret i would have to disagree. They may be redesigning the warthog from what we know considering that this is a prequel to the first Halo and so the pictures could be legit.
in the needler pic the warthog doesnt have a gun so what. in a halo 2 map theres an poster for a hog, being the equivilent of a hummer, and a humvee being a warthog

You might as will as be a Arby n the Chief fan, as the real DigitalPh33r has a “h” between P and 3. Sure, call me a Grammar Nazi. These are most likely gameplay that contain mistakes and Bungie maybe accidentally upload it to the internet or something. It might be even Bungie posted them on purpose to fans. As you know, developers need to test the game a few times and do what gamers do, such as walking back to the previous level(Halo 2: Sacred Icon & Quarantine Zone). THIS IS (mostly likely) REACH!!! Anyways, I think the game is gonna be an awesome game, but maybe not as good as H3, as H3 is more modern. btw, H3 ODST is just gonna be a 3-hour game,according to Joseph Staten.

We get perks? NICE. I like the hologram idea, that’s gonna be very usefull in matchmaking. Hopefully they give us an overshield perk too?
personally i think perks will not be the best idea, i mean look at how much of the anger on MW and MW2 is caused by “i hate juggernaut users!” and “Commando is like a frikin Halo3 sword lunge!” i personally dont want that hate in Reach but hey i could turn out to be amazing what do i know? and in saying that i’m hoping it will turn out well

These pics are fake. Bungie has made no acknowledgment of any of this. The new BR and ‘hog look completely different. The Carbine needler is ridiculous and none of these screenies have the edge blur effect that the trailer features.

im not sure if the pics are fake or not but if i had to guess id say fake…either way the guy that said reach is gonna be based off of a book is wrong just got updated off another site and it said that its not based of any of the books…btw halo 2 sucked harder than anything ive ever seen. if this game is gonna be modern warfare 2 + halo 3 (which i think it will be) as long as they do it right and dont ruin halo by tryin to make it too COD like, it will be the game of the century
Didn’t really believe this before, but after reading the preview on IGN.com, I’m pretty sure these are real. Some of the things Tom mentioned, like the cloaking and sprinting, as well as weapons like the scope BR and needler rifle thing were all confirmed in the article.
The pics are real the Needler Rifle has been confirmed in a Game Informer Magazine as well as the sprint and Camo. You are now also allowed to assassinate enemies instead of just the gay melee. So these pics are legit and once of the levels in the pics looks like it’s in Game Informer.

This is going to a mad game. Ive been a massive halo fan ever since halo: CE hit the shelves. I loved every halo game and pre ordered all of them. Halo: ODST really let me down though. It was just halo 3 but without the good shit. It should have been a 50 dolla game instead of 100 dolla game. PS im pumped for fallout: new vegas 2.

These are real. There is a video of interviews with bungie employees and you can see the title screen of Halo: Reach in the background and it is identicle to the title screen seen here. The video is at bunie’s Reach website: http://www.bungie.net/Projects/Reach/default.aspx
Also, you would have to be a pretty hardcore programer to make this and don’t even suggest that somebody “photoshopped” a 3D image because that is just rediculous. Besides I just confirmed that they are real from my last post.

that modded BR looks a to me like a BR machine gun type thing. If you look at the front of it where the spartan is holding it it looks like a revolving barrel.
And that spartan launcher theory….doesnt look much different from a normal spartan laser cept for the little screen on the side.

The picture of the BR is interesting: There are 10 rounds left. Hopefully this means it’s not 3 round burst. I hope this means it will be a truly dominant, accurate weapon, as in HALO 1. This will help get rid of some cheapness and nubishness, allowing the most practiced players to better dominate.
