As many of us know, the NES console is the holy grail of consoles. It signifies a transition in gaming. Although graphics have gotten better in later generation of consoles, the concepts of NES titles is what, in my opinion, has given this proud video game system the longevity it still exhibits to this day. People, on occasion, still come to play it. With the storylines and actions that were woven into every title, we look back and take a moment to reflect on those that were good, but not talked about. Maybe in the group that yourself may have played them, but not universally. Here is our top ten underrated NES titles.
10. Yo! Noid
With the creepiest pizza mascot known to man, this game brought its A-game to the NES console. Noid, equipped with only his trusty yo-yo at first, travels across a treacherous land to collect scrolls. And to also defeat his evil clone, the hideously named…Mr. Green! Good soundtrack and awesome use of graphics.
9. Smash T.V.
The best game show game alive. Enough said.
8. Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
A two dimensional maze-like utopia. Bugs Bunny tries to collect carrots as villains, such as Yosemite Sam and Daffy Duck, try to capture him. Even though the concept that a bunny couldn’t hop in this game was a bit odd, the enemies could be taken out with falling anvils and a novelty boxing glove. Many, many levels for the Bugster to attempt getting pass. An easy and fun sit-and-go kind of game. Here is a great track to come from a game…the stage one theme.
7. Bonk’s Adventure
The bald headed little guy that took the phrase, “That’s using your head,” and tattooed it on top of his cranium. Just don’t feed him a spicy roast beef, or he’ll go crazy. The environment animation was well done (not talking about the meat Bonk has to eat neither), and the gameplay was easy to master.
6. Mickey Mousecapade
Disney’s right hand man, decided to come out and make a wonderful video game. Most players probably don’t know this game, but going back to the philosophy of concept, this game brought it. The storyline was brilliantly orchestrated, with the colorful enemies and bosses your fearless hero, Mickey, had to defeat along the way. Less is more, with this game only featuring a few levels, it certainly didn’t need anymore.
5. The Little Mermaid
With back-to-back Disney themed titles making the list, The Little Mermaid hits the halfway point, with the pure thrill you catch from holding the controller while playing it. Who remembers searching the sand on the bottom floor, to find a purple shell? Another Capcom release that had every thing you need in a game. Graphics, gameplay, and sound quality.
4. Snow Brothers
Throw some snow on that critter and make it go away! Having the feel of Bubble Bobble, Snow Brothers had two snowmen in trousers, taking the winter snowball fight experience to another level. The thing that made this game really something was the…power-ups. Grab a red colored potion to run faster.
3. Super Dodge Ball
Let’s play some dodge ball…just don’t hit the face! Super Dodge Ball took a recreational pastime and made a simplistic video game for our amusement. If you wanted an easy game to play, then this is a classic. What was fun is when your team held the ball and a member wanted to do a special move to squash the opposition. Who could forget the twirly tetherball of doom.
2. Ninja Crusaders
Overshadowed by his older brother, the highly successful Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Crusaders also came out on the NES. I think we all know why this game was pretty good. When you hold the action button, your character descends up and comes back as an Animal. Highly additive, this game was just difficult enough to be challenging but not so hard that the player would want to put the controller down. The robotic enemies were a blast to try and defeat.
1. Cowboy Kid
This is the number one underrated NES title that came out for that console. The concept for this game was so beautifully done, it burned my retina …just for a moment though, cause I wanted to play the game. I highly recommended this game to anyone who is contemplating on dusting off the ol’ NES machine and wondering which title to slide in it. Cowboy Kid is also a very fun multiplayer game, in where you can play the cowboy and your friend the Indian. There are some minigames throughout Cowboy Kid as well, such as blackjack. You will spend many moments just playing this card game and forget that you’re the sheriff and have to take out the bad guys. The graphics, from the starting screen to the actually gameplay, is awesome. What are you doing still reading this list…go play Cowboy Kid already…

Are you retarded bonks adventure was for turbo grafx 16?
It was also on the NES so less of the name calling
u pick up random games, and forgot real classics like shatterhand and shadow of the ninja.
this list is wack, we all know crazy castle was crap thanks to the nerd, and yo noid was gimicky at best
Since Bonk was a 16-Bit game, how do you figure it was on the 8-Bit NES as well?
Wow I stand corrected! They managed to compress the game’s music and cut out alot of sprites but they did in fact squeeze it onto a 8-Bit Cartridge.
what about shadowgate or faxanadu?
@ Brian,
You are nothing less than an incompetent idiot. Doing a quick search proved you wrong.

The game came out on both.
where’s STINGER, LEGENDARY WINGS, BREAKTHRU, BLASTER MASTER, THE ADVENTURES OF BAYOU BILLY, GUN.SMOKE, THE LEGEND OF KAGE, GYROMITE, WIZARDS AND WARRIORS.
good list i guess i dont think bonk should be on there tho since it was also on turbo grafx
super dodge ball was crap compared to the other sports games in the same series – marathon, soccer, basketball. Am not sure what their English names were.
Monster Party anyone?
Ring King.
There are some good titles there. It is hard to believe that Capcom made a decent Disney film game.

Wow, I never played any of these games before. My friend owned a NES and we played a game that was about Christians or something. But that is about the only obscure game that I played on it.
Why is there never any love for Low G Man?
