It appears Far Cry 3 is indeed currently in development and it also appears to be looking “pretty exciting,” so far, according to Ubisoft scriptwriter Kevin Shortt.
In a recent little chat, Official PlayStation Magazine asked Kevin Shortt if he was working on the sequel Far Cry 2. Already expecting the usual “no comment” response, OPM was treated to a nice little surprise when Mr. Shortt answered, “No I’m not, But I know the team are and what I’ve seen looks pretty exciting.”
So there you have it. While this may not really be that much of a surprise to some of you, considering narrative designer Patrick Reading already revealed not only the game a while back, but also that it might take place in Antarctica, something which I found rather interesting. But now we also know that it looks “pretty exciting” as well.

Looking back at the Far Cry 2 experience, the strongest memory is driving around endlessly. Since then, companies have figured out you need more to make a shooter fun. Either a more compelling story or RPG elements like Fallout 3 and Borderlands. I don’t expect much from Far Cry 3.
I didn’t like FC2 on PC because the Multiplayer was horrible and the single player IMO was pretty linear. Hopefully FC3 isn’t a horrible port again…
The driving was a terrible experience that slowed down the game in my opinion. When you make a game such as Farcry, you need to make sure the game will flow nicely. All the driving just for one mission gets tiring and peeps may take it out and not play it again.
As a PC gamer – you should never stand for a port.
Favorite out of all in the series? There were only two right? Calling FC2 linear makes absolutely no sense. It was the exact opposite of linear. You could literally choose every thing you did, both when and how. That isn’t linear. The problem with FC2 was that it was an entirely different game from the first. Crysis is much more of a spiritual sequel than FC2. I think the big mistake they made was using the far cry name to make a completely different, though ultimately very fun and unique, gaming experience.
It could be even better than what we all first thought….

After I finished played FC2, I said 4 things needed to be done to make it fun
1. Add civilians and buses so not everyone is running around and fighitng, and make it feel more like a real place
2. Add more friendly NPCs, maybe faction members fighting on your side or NPCs fighting each other instead of just you
3. Make it more worthwile to plan your attacks – FC2 really does have good AI, but the ability to run-and-gun totally ruins it
4. Give the player real incentive to help his friends, not just added stuff you don´t even need to finish the game
Great, another Ubisoft game with all the potential and none of the execution. Far Cry 2 multiplayer and the lack of support from Ubisoft with it was enough to put me off ever buying another Ubisoft game.
Plus they are going to have their great new anti-pirating software attached to it. Just to make it that much more of an unplayable mess.
the first one was better IMO. although the second was not bad at all, but it was a little too different. i mean, i know every sequel has to bring something new out, but they might as well have slapped on a new title on it. i do expect the third to better than the second one at least.
I agree FarCry 1 was better. I totally lost interest after I played FC2 for a while. Looking for mission was tiring in FC2.
Hope FC3 is going to be best among them.

FC 1 was way better. FC2 made me mad becuase i felt like i spent 90% of my time driving from point A to point B trying to not get killed along the way. took too much time for little missions that for some reason were on the other side of the map from where you are. they really should have not named it FC.
i really hope this one will be more like FC 1.
i wont buy this one the day it comes out, i’ll wait to see what its like before spending my money.
The Far Cry series is a pretty lame PC series if you ask me. These single player PC shooters with generic multiplayer just don’t do it for me anymore.
Loved Far Cry 1, well up until the part everyone hates. Far Cry 2 I hated the respawning of the enemies, and well it just did’t feel like Far Cry should feel. Far Cry 3.. I probably won’t even play
It should be noted that farcry 2 used ubisoft’s dunia engine , not the cry engine.
FC2 Had the best multiplayer out there and the game itself was awesome it was complete freedom.The fact that you had endless custom maps makes other games inferior.If your gonna complain about going to different areas driving your lazy and your brain is linear.The best part about the game was finding cool stuff along the way to your next target.This game stomps every other fps in everyway and if you think otherwise you need to go back to games that lay the road for you.
I cant wait multiplayer is really good after ubisoft sorted there server outbut still has the odd glitch. If they get there server to cope with the demand of multiplayer then this should be another great game. Ive played call of duty Modern Warfare once since I bought it. Farcry 2 has been stuck in my ps3 since the day and hour I bought it thats how addictive the game is my wife has even threatened to leave me if I keep playing to all hours of the night, my answer to her was…. put the key in the letterbox after you lock the door. FARCRY 3 HURRY UP…….
Thats what im saying the game is like crack.I couldnt put it down after i started playing its the best online experience for consoles imo just becuase the map editor lets you be so creative.My friends all play and we host our maps and have huge games all night.Call of duty is whats seems linear go here go there you just cant do what you want and guess what you want new maps you gotta pay for em.
Not to mention the graphics the vehicles and environments in the game still rival the best on consoles.Look at the cars on codmw2 they look like they pasted there very cheesy everything in this game is colorful and burn able trees fall its just a much more advanced game.The only other game that wowed me was kz2 but this game is almost like drakes as a fps with the color and textures on the trees ground buildings vehicles all perfect.I dont even notice any anti aliasing issues with this game.
I think the people that talk shit about this game either were brain washed with the whole call of poopy hype or they just sucked at it.Its a different game than other fps games the feel is different and the sniping is perfect.

Far Cry 2 CHEATS! To many glitches to many things that would not happen in real life. Shooting through rocks, enemies appearing right in front of you?!! What the Heck!

I hope that far cry 3 is a run threw adventure like farcry 1 with the sci fy. it is not boring and got better and better instead of a here they are go kill them. Far cry was never intended to be a rpg so why make it one realy. there is more fun in a game that you play through gaining new abilities than runing around having to kill people hours away when even driving. the multiplayer should also have laying down option, picking up enemey or weapons on the map. and last not having to cofirm climbing a ladder picking up ammo or stealing a diamon.

The first far cry was by far my favourate, the landscape was amazing, if only it had been carried on in far cry 2
I have played both Far Cry games on the 360. Far Cry 2 didnt leave my disc tray for 1 year starting the day it was released. When it finally did leave my disc tray it didnt go back in though. This was due to the horrible controls. Everything about the game was awesome except for all the driving and the enemies respawning as soon as the area they were in was out of site. The controls were what killed it for me though. The controls should have been smooth and felt natural like aiming a gun, but they werent. It was like the character you were playing had severe motor control issues.From the first time i played it until the last time i played it, I felt like i was fighting with the sticks to simply aim at my target. Far Cry 3 could be great if Ubisoft fixes the rate the enemies respawn and actually put some time and effort into making the aiming smoother and more user friendly. To sum it all up on topic, both Far Cry 1 and 2 were great games but both suffered from crappy controls on the 360. Both had aspects that i liked that the other was lacking.So i would have to say its a tie.
What I like about Far Cry 2 is that it’s not afraid to be different. It relies on common mechanics, with the core shooting mechanics focusing on the aiming/shooting double trigger control scheme, which I love, but still it includes all these other elements that are so unique like the realism in the weapon degradation, car degradation, malaria, swimming, sprinting, and just a really fun game to blast your way through. Couple that with an engrossing tale and you have a real winner. Since it was practically a new IP (YES IT WAS), the next one developed by Ubisoft Montreal will be dripping with polish. If it relies on the same mechanics, it will be a fantastic action game, just like FC2. Hopefully it’ll have more guns, maybe character creation, a cover system… But as long as it doesn’t fall too far from the tree, it’s a 100% sure buy from me.
I really hope that they put different vehicles in far cry 3 and less driving on the ground. besides the constant driving everywhere, all the time i loved the game
i loved all the realistic driving distances! but i hate all u people who just wanna shoot shoot shoot! it was a great game offline! and im very fussy about games!

most i wish is that they include a survival aspect as a starvation and dehydration meter(making it optional thought for the casual) like the one announced for fallout newvegas. and i know some will and some not want this and probably hear it all the time a co op option would also be fun far cry 2 felt a bit too lonely after a while, and also i hope they do something about all the driving.(it was way too long distance) i personally couldn’t finish the game because all the driving involved and that’s coming from a farcry fan.
I have to agree about the boring part. Big fan of the orignal Far Cry on PC. Most tense game ever. Actually fear for my life lol. And thats why I picked up Far Cry 2. The graphics are amazing but the game play didnt feel the same.
No prone, no traps and no fun. only OH $HIT! OH $HIT!! moments that were because of random spawns. hope far 3 takes the game play and the ai from the first one and throw it in with the graphics and open world of far cry two. BTW!! MORE WEAPONS for far 3.
