What’s Better Than Rainbows?

diablo3Well to answer my question the only thing better than rainbows is the exclusion of a skill tree. The new and “improved” Diablo 3 will now not only exclude custom stats, but now because you are to stupid to pick your own skills, they are going to do that for you too.

I remember when I first played Diablo 1. It was an amazing experience where I was able to decide a good amount of my character’s development choices. Then in Diablo 2 they really added more choices and abilities. The addition of more customization is what really made the game better and so re-playable. If you made a Necromancer you could have an army of skeletons that could destroy an army, or you could have a golem that was super strong and could rival Diablo himself. You could also add spells like Teeth to help decimate hoards of enemies. The choices were endless and that was something that you could take to the bank of re-playability.

It seems like this new team thinks that we are all suffering from some mental incapacitation where we need everything bright, colorful, and without control.  Unless the new game features some sort of specialization that one can choose from I don’t think this game is going to be one that will rival anything but Wall-E the video game.

Why do you instantly assume that they won’t let you pick skills. The statement made by Blizzard was very vague. Here’s an example, in Torchlight, you unlock skills in a “tree-like” format where you assign points to skills you like most. However, the skills themselves have no prerequisites besides character level. As far as we all know, that’s exactly the type of thing Blizzard could be talking about (and for good reason, taking a load of poor skills to get to a few good ones is irritating and pointless.)

Whatever the truth turns out to be, not giving people skill-based character progression is a mistake that isn’t made even by budget studios, much less one of the best studios around.

-Their are more and more games coming out that do make this mistake and guess what… they’re out for the Wii or they end up in a bargain bin. Faith in Diablo 3? 0% Faith in Starcraft II? Atleast 50%
