It seems that a whole new market is about to open up for downloadable games as the new Mystery Case Files will be available in Collector’s Edition.
Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove, the sixth in the very popular series, is available via a Collector’s Edition despite not being fully released until December. This is due to those ordering the Collector’s Edition getting early access to the game. They also receive additional gameplay and levels, behind the scenes stuff, a strategy guide and a new challenges and achievement system. Big Fish Games are charging $19.95, while the normal version of the game will launch in December for $6.99.
And has it worked? Well, so far the Collector’s Edition is at the top of the Big Fish Games download chart…could we soon be seeing this in popular XBLA and PSN games?

It would be cool if on PSN, they have a special section for buying games online, paying them (possibly by buying PSN network cards or whatever), choosing whether special/collectors/normal editions, and then getting it sent on day of release, all without leaving the house!
