EA LA, developers of the upcoming Medal of Honor reboot, got quite defensive in a recent magazine interview when Modern Warfare 2 was mentioned – and also claimed that Medal of Honor wasn’t a World War II franchise…
In the Official Xbox Magazine (February 2010 UK Edition), the interviewer asks executive producer Greg Goodrich and senior creative director Richard Farrelly about the airport scene in Modern Warfare 2 and linked it to what the reaction was with the Tier 1 Ops soldiers who helped develop the new MoH with “good taste”.
Instead of leaving it at Farrelly’s answer of ”I don’t think they’ve played it”, Goodrich defensively sniped:
“Modern Warfare 2 wasn’t even out when we started development on the game…When I use honour, respect, authenticity and words like that, I’m not even thinking about the other games that are out there. Our focus is just on Medal of Honor. Those things have always been there. Those are the core tenets to the series.”
Yes, just like the modern-day setting was a core tenet to the series.
OXM-UK also asked them about the switch to present times, Farrelly answered:
“Medal of Honor is not a World War II franchise. We’re not tied to any specific time frame.”
Erm, well up until now…yes, yes it is a World War II franchise.
Is it just me, or are they being awfully defensive about the obvious and expected comparisons? Also worth noting is that Farrelly was previously at Treyarch and had a hand in a few of the Call of Duty titles.

Neither was your game and Call of Duty 4 was out probably well before then anyway, so what’s your point? And the interviewer wasn’t even really comparing Modern Warfare 2 to Medal of Honor, just the reaction to something controversial.
Seriously, the great thing about the modern era as a setting in video games is how it allows developers to be so open in their storytelling abilities while still making relevant to current events. So it’s pretty easy to create a great game nothing like Modern Warfare 2 and then you won’t have to worry about criticism that you “copied Call of Duty”, which we all know to be ridiculous. All you have to do is not set your game somewhere that is either actually in or in fictional country resembling the Middle…nope, they set it in Afghanistan. You’re on your own
Who cares, if it like MW2 so is every other shooter, lets just hope this one has dedicated servers and a console!
The original Medal of Honor is a great multiplayer game and is still being played all over the world. It’s sad that EA didn’t realize what they had.
I also wish they focused on streamlining it rather than adding bloat.
Rebooting it into the present is just ridiculous. The whole point was that it was a WWII genre game.

While I’m open arms for this game to come out (Given MW2′s largely TERRIBLE pc community [we need dedicateds, goddamnit]), for the past few years, MoH has been in the back while CoD took the main stage, and now MoH’s getting somebody from Treyarch…CoD: W@W was a CoD title, but it wasn’t that great. I’m worried for the new MoH.
Yeah except COD did a lot better job of a game when they “copied” MOH. I’m okay with the end result.
MoH Franchise is a business, like any business they must accommodate and adjust to current trends to survive. The current trend now is focused on the Modern Era.
Before you fan-boys cry about similarities, remember, MoH came out before CoD, which revolutionized the FPS genre, with future games, even CoD, ‘borrowing’ elements from the game.
Additionally, just because they use similar levels, such as the Helicopter Gun-ship (where its in Black&White TV Mode) its based off CURRENT technology. Of course it going to look the same as they are replicating real-life.
Bullshit, the new MoH stuff looks like a total rip off from Modern Warfare 1 and 2.

believe me, there is nothing worse than having to constantly separate your game from the competition.
its hard to know what developers are doing while your creating your own game, you put what you want in a game and allot of the time other games end up having it too.

They should keep Medal of Honor where it’s been since PS2: Dead. Call of Duty took out Halo 3 as the best FPS on a console. MoH stands no chance.
Genitally speaking, I have high hopes for the new MoH game. CoD has been like a dirty affair with a fast and easy broad, it feels good at the time but afterwards the feelings of guilt kick in.
MoH has been slaving over a hot stove at home like a good wife should, only for me to be playing fast and loose with this other two-bit-hussy behind her back.

Obviously the WW2 theme died when World at War came out. It just didn’t sell after modern warfare rocked the online gaming world to its core. And yes you can obviously tell with the guy on that pic that they are trying to create a hero type character much like CoD did (Cpt Price, and soap). The fact of the matter is if they don’t then EA will have to shut down one of their hundred game studios that crank out mediocre games every year…. Let me go ahead and say all of their games aren’t duds.. in fact many of them are great but the recycled to original ratio is definitely leaning on the recycled side.
It is reasonable that people in the industry will compare your product with the big ones that are already being sold.
The thing that annoys me is those pc gamers who complain that they can’t run any high end game with the argument: “but I can run MW2 in medium!!”
So were the first three Call of Duty titles.

See if my wife, who is way hotter and classier than the dirty s1ut, is willing to stay in the kitchen and cook while avoiding the reality that I am leaving at night for a few hrs and coming home reeking of liqour and s3x a few times a week, I have a great chance to convince her that a 3some will benefit our relationship.

Really? Honestly? I’d have done the same. It’s Modern Warfare fucking 2 its being compared to. If people just think of it as a MW2 rip off, no one will buy it. Also. What the fuck is it with gamers and game press CONSTANTLY saying games are rip offs? IT’S MODERN. It’s not based on fantasy. So when you make a WWII game, your ripping off the first WWII game? NO. Yes, they may have gone the way of modern times because it’s a trend, but MW is NOT the first game to start going modern. The reason their so defensive is because the accusations are DUMB. Seriously. Medal of Honor was a ww2 game and should have stayed that way. but EA didn’t listen to the true fans who have been with them since the begining.
