Welcome to our new weekly feature, the Koku Gamer ‘Perfect Movie Cast’, where each week we take a game franchise or a game and match up actors that would best be suited to the video game character. Tune in each Monday and see who makes the cut and who doesn’t. To start us of with our first ever Perfect Movie Cast will be Gears of War.
What better way to start of the list than with the main hero Marcus Fenix. As bad ass he is the man loves his planet and wants to see humanity survive. Bulky, bad ass and smart on the battlefield, Marcus is a Delta Squad Sargent. Who better to play his character than Gerard Butler. He is a very talented actor and has the macho body type. Known for being a bad as in the most caring way from movies such as 300 to Gamer, Gerard Butler is the Koku Gamer choice for Marcus Fenix.
Trying to find the best actor to play Marcus’s good friend Dom Santiago was not the easiest task, but we found a perfectly talented Latino actor, from such movies as Blood in, Blood Out and Miss Congeniality Benjamin Bratt makes a perfect Dom. While he may lack the muscular body type (It might be hard to match Dom in size anyhow), a great work out plan before the shoot would help the situation in addition to some special effects; the transition would be flawless. There were some other choices sure, but none come as close to the talent of Benjamin Bratt.
Baird as we all know is the cockiest COG solider in the Delta Squad no matter what the situation is, to many he appears to be all talk, but when it comes to action Baird is ready. People know him for his ability to obtain any explosives needed to get through whatever it takes. Baird is a useful and very crucial member of Delta Squad. Who better to play him than Paul Walker? Watch Fast and the Furious and you’ll see the resemblance.
Oh Dear! Cole is one of my favorite characters in the Gears of War universe and it was difficult to choose the one person to play him. The few I thought would make great choices were Michael Clarke Duncan, Terry Crews, Lawrence Taylor, boy I could go on. One that stood out to me that had the confidence and the body build of Cole was LL Cool J. Ever since Deep Blue Sea, I’ve enjoyed LL Cool J and the attitude his character carries in each film and that is why it makes perfect sense for him to play Cole.
Although Minh Young Kim gets killed by General RAAM at the start of the first installment of Gears of War he was still part of Delta Squad. Not much is known about him since he only lived short time, which is exactly why the actor we chose for him makes sense. Faran Tahir is an actor not many people know a lot about, just like many gamers on’t know much about Minh Young Kim.
If you were to ask Dom why he is fighting in this war, the answer you’ll most likely get is to find Maria, portrayed as a beautiful brunette, Maria is the love of his life. While searching for the most natrually beatiful while talented actress I came across one that I think many of you would appreciate, and that is Kate Beckinsale. While it may be hard to take her in as a sweet women who loves her hispanic macho man, she makes a perfect Maria both in beauty and style. And she is very hot.
Anya was an easy choice for us all, We started out with trying to find a great blond actresses, that was simply cute, and who else other than Scarlett Johansson, beautiful, bold and sexy, she makes a perfect choice for that voice you hear in your head when new intel is available. You may never look at Anya the same way again.
Dizzy Wallin, possibly your favorite cowboy in gaming is a unique character indeed. While it was very hard to find a true actor to play him we thought we’d go the funny yet serious route with Chuck Norris. You may not remember Dizzy as an ass kicking karate kid, but the movie version should definitely be played by Martial Arts legend Chuck Norris. You’ll be able to tell your kids “You don’t buy a movie ticket to see Gears of War, you buy a ticket to see Chuck Norris”. What ever jokes you guys may have, the resemblance is there, from the Cowboy hat to the beard baby.
Jack, the only non-human main character that you really see a lot of in the Gears of War universe, assists in opening doors that are unable to be kicked to open. He doesn’t talk, but if it could we are betting it would sound something like the Governator, well we’ll let you decide on whether or not you think the guy below would fit the Jack character:
To some Jon Voight is best suited to play the Villain when it comes to any kind of movie. We love him as a bad guy because he plays the bad character best in the movie industry. While Victor may not be a bad guy, he is definitely an ass hole when it comes to Delta Squad. He was reluctant to reinstate Fenix into the military because of past problems. You can’t do a big budget movie and not include the talents of Jon Voight.
The Locust Queen, the mother of the enemy, the creator of General RAAM, the toughest looking mother f$*I## of them… wait wait wait, you mean the traditional looking queen? Yes, that one. While many thought they’d be seeing a giant turd looking queen they were surprised to see a regular looking women dressed in a queen like costume. After doing a few comparisons, we think that our Shallow Hal star Gwyneth Paltrow would make a perfect character for the Locust Queen, just look at the image below:
There are many different versions of actors could have played characters from Gears of War, and not one is similar to another. Disagree on LL Cool J, not sure who I would have but definitely not him. I guess the other thing is the movie cast won’t ever look as buff and big as the video game counterparts.

LL Cool J is a good choice, but I think either Terry Crews or Jamie Foxx would be better choices. Also I thinkg Roselyn Sanchez would be a better choice for Maria.
some choices were okay but for the guys i dissagree on the almost all of them, for cole the eal guy who voices him would be perfect to act him, but baird was a good choice and chuck noris as dizzy is horrible

Sam Worthington would be my choice for Baird instead of Paul Walker.. Paul Walker is the blond version of Keanu Reeves and that’s not saying much when it comes to acting.. OK now i am done for sure!

I agree with basically everyone about the voice actor of Cole.
However, it seems that this article was based on going to google images, finding certain images of the characters, then searching images that look like said image, and finding a (semi-)contemporary actor’s picture that best matches the freeze-frame of the game.
I mean, just look at the Queen. Was there no other appropriate picture of Gwyneth Paltrow other than one that “happens” to have the same color scheme of the still from the game?
John travolta would be good for marcus. They way he looks right now he has all the features down.

This is a terrible list. Not only is every actor poorly chosen, any evidence that could have been provided to back up these claims is relatively none existant. These choices, given the salaries of each actor, would make this one of the most expensive film projects any studio has ever taken on. It’s unrealistic. (Not to mention the multitude of grammatical errors that plague this article. The author should be ashamed of his inability to write.)
Arnold as Jack? That makes absolutely no sense. You’re reason for it is even worse. Also Chuck Norris is 69 years old, how old do you think Dizzy is?
The only ones I have strong disagreements with is Chuck Norris.
I can appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm for the voice actor of Cole to just do the “real” acting for Cole in a live action movie, but there is a HUGE difference between voice acting and “real” acting, so I’m not sure I trust him for it. LL could do a decent job I’m sure, but Michael Jai White would be perfect. If you disagree, please go see Black Dynamite. He’s spot on.
Other than that, that is a really, really good cast list and I wouldn’t refuse to see the movie based on the cast-list alone.

Cole as LL Cool J certainly sticks out like a thumb and I agree Cole is definitely one of my fave characters but I’d rather have the guy behind his voice, Terry Tate, to be his cast. You can’t replace his voice ;D Office Linebacker, go watch those clips, he’s soo Cole

This is terrible. This could only work if money were no object (and trust me it is). Imagine what this movie would cost, not to mention the fact that these choices are dreadful for the most part.
I agree with you on several of your choices,but Terry Crews is a far better fit with Cole than LL Cool J.I think you hit the nail with the Locust Queen,and even though I find Kate Beckinsale superhot…I think Eliza Dushku would be a better match for Maria.

Lester Speight should be #1 pick, but lets not forget Bobby Lashly. And for that matter drop Paul Walker and put in Brock Lesnar(however dub his girly voice). You know what, what the hell. Keep the hot female actresses, let the WWE produce this movie and fill it with a bunch of oversized WWE and former WWE stars!

Minh Young Kim is Korean, so I think it stands to reason a “KOREAN” should play his character. How about Sung Kang or Daniel Dae Kim.

Faran Tahir is ethnically Pakistani and clearly doesn’t look Korean. You wouldn’t, say, cast a redheaded Irish actor as an Italian character would you?

Looks are important and so is acting. I’m confident my list is great. I like LL Cool J as an actor, he displays the confidence that Cole does. Kate, is hot and can play a good love interest. Gerard is an amazing actor and has the natural size. I’m confident with my article.

While you’re opinion is nice and all, if you had any scope of how the film industry operates, you’d have taken into account the multiple factors that are involved when casting a movie, rather choosing, “who you like” and being “hot”. It’s decisions like that that compromise the integrity of a potential film franchise and turn it into something akin to “Bloodrayne” or, God forbid, “Super Mario Bros.” I’m sure Uwe Boll would be interested to hear your ideas. A Perfect Cast, this is not.

You’re correct in saying that voice acting is completely different than live acting, but the depth of characters really doesn’t require Shakespearean-quality, Oscar-worthy performances, so it’d probably be worth it to give him a shot. However, Michael Clark Duncan, Ving Rhames, and Mr. White are all much better choices since LL would need to be put on apple boxes during every shot.

But yes, there would be a monumental uproar if you nixed out the only Asian opportunity in the movie. There’s really no reason for it, as Korea has quite the burgeoning movie industry, and there are actually some giant Korean dudes.

I’m not saying to limit your horizons to specific actors, but Faran Tahir isn’t even Asian. I’m confident there are talents within the Korean film industry who would do a more than exceptional job in the role of Kim. My primary point of contention lies with the moronic author of this article who supported his opinion of Arnold Schwarzenneger as Jak by including a photo of him as the Terminator. i just think the author is an idiot.

I think the choosing of Arnold has more to do with the way the Jak machine looks like the picture of Arnold as the Terminator more than anything else. The more I think about it, the more evident it becomes that he just clicked “more like this” when image searching.

I disagree with putting any BS Wwe stars in this movie . Cole should be Rampage Jackson . Although Will Smiths personality fits it , and he would do great too .

Damon Baird- Christopher Titus (stand up comedian, the resemblance in both attitude and face are uncanny.)
Colonel Hofman- J.K. Simmons (The Closer)
Lt.Kim- Micheal McDonald (The Guy who played Stuart on MadTV. Just because i feel bad for him….his carer just never panned out. But the can use anyone for Kim, All he says is “I’ll Open the door, I have the code” and “It only works outside.” So basically they could use anyone.
Dizzy Wallin- The fat guy from 30 Days Of Night.(I don’t Know his name.)(Gears 2)
Tai Kaliso-IDK (He’s in gears 2.)
Anya Stroud- Role is mostly offscreen, no need for a big name actor.
If she looks right, the could use the same voice actor from the game.
Locust Queen- No onscreen appearance in Gears one so,again, the same voice actor from the game.
A.Carmine-I Don’t Know his name but, Charlie from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, HILARIOUS.
