Developed by Big Blue Bubble, Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is an interactive RPG book, an idea from the gamebook which was devised in the 80′s, where you journey through a treasure seeking adventure. It allows you to use your iPhone/iPod to roll the dice and select inventory with just a simple touch on the screen. You are thrown into a world where pirates and other treasure seekers thrive. It gives you the choice to create your own way in order to get through the story and get the happy or miserable ending you may want.

The game starts with rolling the dice and finding out what your skill, luck, and levels are. From there, you venture into the mountain and find your way around the caves where you decide on which way to go and if you should really go into the rooms. You are inclined to either fight or flight with different goblins and monsters. Roll the dice to find out how you fare against your enemy; the way to roll the dice is to shake your iPhone and the accelerometer will do its job. Collect different items that you find in the many rooms and build your inventory, which is easily accessible. In this game, having luck really helps you out and can sway the points in your favor.

I really liked the idea of this game because I’m an active reader and can’t seem to get enough of books. The flipping of the pages made it feel as if you were actually reading the book and the look of the ‘book’ itself was realistic. The artificial page turning really puts a stop to the possibility of any paper related injuries you may inflict on yourself while reading. I also liked the idea of rolling dice, because it incorporated the board game. It was a game of chance and adventure story, rolled into one neat and fun package.

Overall, this game is awesome and it made me want to read more books. It captured my attention pretty well with its story and kept my interest going with the graphics and swift decision making. With this game, you better prepare yourself for the journey that lies ahead. You never know what could be lurking in those rooms, and remember you have the choice.
